Yesterday we walked to the fountain surrounding le Centre Pompidou. It was amazing to see the spray painted graffiti art on the surrounding wall. I have always wanted to see graffiti art where it is more than just words. I finally saw it yesterday- there were paintings of mainly people and it was interesting to try to figure out the meaning behind each artwork. Its a little ironic that I wore my 'make art not war shirt' that day as well! I had also been dying to have my picture taken with the one and only Mr. Merriam and that dream also came true yesterday!

louvre had some of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen! ~ Katy Aspinwall After spending a very comfortable night at our hostel (which just happened to be a chateau built in 1758!), we set off on the morning of March 3 for a tour of several D-Day landmarks. After meeting our tour guide in Bayeux, we drove to Pointe du Hoc, the highest point between Omaha and Utah beaches. US Army Rangers successfully scaled the 100 ft. high cliffs on the morning of 6 June 1944 and assaulted the German fortification. After a brief stop at Omaha Beach, we made our way to the American Military Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, which was a very moving experience for all of us. Our last stop was the Mémorial de Caen, an extremely well done museum that explores the history of violent conflict in the 20th century (with a particular emphasis on WWII) in the interests of promoting peace through understanding. Then it was back to the hostel for dinner and a rousing karaoke session, which provided a good antidote to the more somber tenor of the day.
We arrived safely in Paris on the morning of March 2 and headed straight off on a lovely bus tour to Normandy. Our first visit was to the medieval city of Mont Saint-Michel, where we toured the abbey that dates back to the 10th century. We especially enjoyed sitting in the monks' refectory, which is just a little different from the one we are accustomed to at NA :)
